JellyWatch Player

Recommendations

JellyWatch Player suggests what to watch next from your own library and your taste, in up to eight shelves.

What it does

Recommendations suggests titles from your own library, based on what you watched, rated and favourited. Suggestions are arranged in up to eight shelves. Nothing outside your library is ever suggested. It is free, needs no JellyWatch account, and works on TV, phone and tablet.

Turn it on

You enable Recommendations for each profile:

  • On Home, a one-time banner offers Enable Recommendations or Not now.
  • On TV, select Recommendations in the sidebar, then Enable Recommendations.
  • On phone and tablet, use the Recommendations button on Home, or Settings → Recommendations.

If you already enabled it for the same Jellyfin user on another device (for example the TV), your phone picks it up by itself, unless you turned it off on this device.

Kids profiles never get Recommendations.

The first analysis

The first time, the app reads your library and the server prepares your shelves. The screen shows Preparing your recommendations with a progress percentage. You can leave the page. It keeps working in the background.

The shelves

ShelfWhat it shows
For youThe titles that fit your taste best, with variety across genres and sagas
Because you liked …Titles similar to one title you liked recently
You will probably likeMore of the same ranking
Same mood as your favoritesClosest to your favourites, high ratings, thumbs-up and requests
Series that match your tasteSeries only
To watch tonightMovies with a length close to the movies you usually finish
Hidden gems in your libraryWell-rated titles in genres you rarely watch
Movies outside your habitsGood movies from genres you do not usually watch. This shelf changes from one refresh to the next.

A title appears in only one shelf. Several versions of one film (for example 1080p and 4K) are shown as one card. If the app does not know your taste yet, only three shelves appear: For you, To watch tonight and Series that match your taste.

What the ranking uses

Positive signals: finishing or rewatching a title, favourites, your ratings and thumbs-up. A Seerr request counts only if you also started the title. Negative signals: abandoning a title, low ratings, thumbs-down, and hiding a title. Recent activity weighs more than old activity. Titles you keep seeing without opening slowly drop in the ranking.

New rankings

The ranking refreshes in the background and never changes the screen under your fingers. When new shelves are ready, a New recommendations available banner appears. Select it to apply them.

Hide a title

Press and hold a title (long press on TV, long press on phone) and choose Don't recommend. It disappears and will not come back. Your watch history does not change.

To bring one back, open Ignored titles (the icon at the top of the screen), then select Recommend again.
