What Is WatchPass on Android TV?
WatchPass on Android TV is the interface for non-admin users of a Jellyfin server. When a server admin has purchased WatchPass on the JellyWatch mobile app, every user who logs in to JellyWatch for Android TV with their server credentials automatically gets the WatchPass interface.
WatchPass access is granted by the server admin via the mobile JellyWatch app (Admin Features + WatchPass purchase required). The TV app verifies access automatically - no extra steps for the user.
Accessing WatchPass
Navigate to WatchPass in the sidebar. If access is confirmed, the full WatchPass interface opens.
What Users Get
Library Access
- Browse all libraries the server admin has made accessible.
- Open movie, series, season, and episode detail pages.
- Play content with the full built-in TV player (Direct Play / Transcode).
- Resume playback from where you left off.
Media Requests
Requires WatchPass to be active:
- Browse trending movies and series.
- Search for any title and request it with a single button press.
- Track the status of your requests (pending, approved, available).
- Browse by network, studio, or collection.
If WatchPass is not active, the Requests section shows a locked state.
Issue Reporting
Requires WatchPass to be active:
- Report playback problems directly from a media detail page.
- View all your previously reported issues and their resolution status.
- Read the full comment thread with the admin.
Access Verification
WatchPass status is checked against the JellyWatch backend (verify.jellywatch.app) on every app launch. The check is fast and non-blocking - the home screen loads while the check runs in the background.
- WatchPass badge appears in the sidebar avatar header when access is confirmed.
- If WatchPass lapses, the Requests and Issues sections lock, but Library access remains.
Admin Users on Android TV
Admin users see the full app interface including:
- Admin Dashboard - session monitoring (see Admin Dashboard page)
- All WatchPass features
- A Switch to Admin UI indicator is shown at the top of the WatchPass screen if you are logged in as an admin.
